Essential context

Understanding temperature conversions

Temperature scales do not share both the same zero point and degree size. Celsius and Fahrenheit need an offset, while Kelvin and Rankine are absolute scales beginning at absolute zero.

Precision and rounding

Convert with the complete scale-and-offset formula, then round the final result. Applying only a multiplier gives an incorrect result for most Celsius or Fahrenheit pairs.

A distinction that matters

Kelvin is written without a degree sign. A temperature interval and an absolute temperature can also require different interpretation in technical work.
